The Metalwork That Finishes a Roof
ARCHITECTURAL SHEET METAL IN NORTHERN UTAH
Standing-seam accents, chimney caps, cupolas and custom flashing, fabricated and installed by Legacy Roofing craftsmen.
A Craft Distinct From Laying Shingles
Walk past a home with real presence and look at the roofline. Chances are the details drawing your eye are metal: a standing-seam porch roof breaking up a field of shingles, a copper bay window cap developing its patina, a cupola with a finial catching the light on the ridge. Architectural sheet metal is what turns a well-installed roof into a finished one, and it takes fabrication skill, bending, seaming, soldering and hemming, that general roofing crews typically do not carry.
The same craft is also what keeps complicated roofs watertight. Every place a roof meets something that is not roof, a chimney, a wall, a valley, a skylight, depends on flashing, and flashing is sheet metal work. Off-the-shelf flashing fits off-the-shelf situations. Older homes, custom homes and complex rooflines need pieces fabricated for the actual geometry, which is why so many chronic leaks trace back to a spot where someone caulked instead of fabricating. We fabricate the piece the roof actually needs.
Chimneys deserve a special mention because they generate so many of the service calls we run. A properly built chimney cap keeps rain, snow and pests out of the flue while venting correctly, and a properly built cricket splits snow and water around the chimney instead of letting it pond behind the masonry. In Utah snow country, the difference between a chimney with a real cap and cricket and one without is often the difference between a dry ceiling and a stained one.
We work in prefinished steel, aluminum and copper, matched to the project and the budget. Accent roofs are typically standing seam with concealed fasteners, the same panel discipline we bring to full metal roofs. Decorative work, cupolas, finials, cornice and fascia metal, is measured, fabricated and hung by our own craftsmen. If you are planning a roof replacement, the smartest time to add metal accents is during the replacement, and we will quote it as a clearly separated line item so you can decide with real numbers.
The Legacy Standard · Six Steps
Every roof runs
the same process.
Whatever the scope, the work runs through the same six steps of assessment, design, craftsmanship, protection, verification, and assurance, so the roof you get is the roof we documented and the warranty we registered.

ARCHITECTURAL SHEET METAL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
Common questions about architectural sheet metal services answered by our expert contractors.
The custom-fabricated metal on and around a roof: standing-seam accent roofs over porches and dormers, chimney caps and crickets, cupolas and finials, cornice and fascia metal, and the custom flashing that waterproofs transitions. It is fabrication work, distinct from laying a field of shingles.
Usually yes. Porch, dormer and bay window accents can be installed on an existing roof in good condition, and we flash the transitions properly where new metal meets existing shingles. If your roof is close to replacement age, doing both together is more efficient and we will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
Very often, yes. Chimneys without a proper cricket let snow pond against the uphill side of the masonry, and as it melts it finds its way behind tired flashing. A fabricated cricket plus new counterflashing solves the actual problem, where another round of caulk only postpones it.
Yes. Copper costs more than prefinished steel or aluminum, and it earns it on the right project: it solders beautifully, lasts generations and develops a patina no coating imitates. We will quote copper alongside steel and aluminum so you can weigh the difference with real numbers.
Because complex rooflines create transitions that off-the-shelf flashing was never made for, and somewhere along the line an installer bridged the gap with sealant. Sealant is maintenance, not waterproofing. Fabricated flashing shaped to the actual geometry is the durable fix, and it is the heart of this trade.
Yes. The same W-2 standard applies to our sheet metal work as to our roofing: our own craftsmen fabricate and install, and the work runs through the same 17-point quality control checklist and cleanup routine as every Legacy Roofing project.
